The 4th Italian–Pakistani Workshop on Relativistic Astrophysics was held at the Center for Advanced Mathematics and Physics (now named the School of Natural Sciences), National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan in February 2013 (a group photo of the participants at the workshop is shown in figure 1). It was originally dedicated to 50 years of the Kerr metric and it was hoped that Professor Roy P Kerr would attend, but unfortunately he was unable to make it. Pakistanʼs top physicist at the time, Professor Riazuddin, who was Professor Abdus Salamʼs first PhD student, had presented a talk at this workshop on neutrinos in the context of their relevance for astroparticle physics. His cancer flared up soon after and he passed away in September 2013. On this account the workshop is re-dedicated to his memory and an obituary note is added. Some of the papers presented at the workshop are published in this issue of Physica Scripta.
