Chem. derivatization-XPS was used for the characterization of polymer surfaces such as overoxidized polypyrrole (PPYox) and poly(o-phenylenediamine) films (PPD) grown at different pH. Derivatization of -COOH groups in PPYox was accomplished by trifluoroethanol and by trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) or 4-trifluoromethylbenzaldehyde for PPD.a component. Survey scans of a PPD sample before and after derivatization with TFAA are discussed.
