Abstract

Observations of microlensing events towards the Magellanic Clouds suggest that an important fraction of the Galactic halo is in the form of massive astrophysical compact halo objects (MACHOs) with mass ≡0.1 Msun. The authors propose a model for the formation of dark clusters of MACHOs and molecular clouds in the galactic halo at distances larger than ≡10 - 20 kpc from the center. Possible signatures of the presence of molecular clouds in our Galaxy and in M31 are considered.
