The essay focuses on a specific segment of the artistic patronage of Prince Carlo Gesualdo, that in favor of the Florentine painter, but transplanted to Naples, Giovanni Balducci. The essay is therefore divided into three parts, each dedicated to a work created by the painter and his workshop for the fiefdom of Gesualdo (AV): the famous Altarpiece of Pardon for the Capuchin church of Gesualdo, the Apparition of the Virgin to San Giacinto for the Rosario church in Gesualdo and the Virgin of Rosary from the Dominican church in Taurasi. For each of these paintings, new comparisons and iconographic readings or new hypotheses on commissioning and chronology are proposed.
