Abstract: The present study draws upon the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics and the seminal works on metaphor by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson (1980) and, more recently, by Zoltan Kővecses (1986 et seq.). The analysis in this short paper examines the characteristics of select conceptual metaphors pertaining to LIFE and DEATH, as well as the expression of emotions in Francesco Antonio Santori’s work Emira.
