The paper proposes a reflection on the possibility of using rights language to generally express claims of justice, overcoming the link between rights and autonomy. Particularly, the paper moves from the meaning of the expression “having a right” to emphasize how the progressive broadening of the ethical sequence beyond the human borders might represent the framework of a the ory of rights to be recognized to nonhumans. Finally, the paper underlines how the law is starting to recognize some rights to nonhumans.
