Beginning with the analysis of the Mitleid, understood as the metaphysical foundation of Arthur Schopenhauer’s ethics, this contribution aims to investigate the ‘pathological criterion’ as instituting a new direction in contemporary ethics, in order to develop and actualize it in the perspective of a patient-oriented ethics.
