“Je suis pas sûre d'avoircompris la dernière phrase” : collaborare per capirsi in contesti di intercomprensione

The paper analyses meaning negotiation strategies used by speakers during teletandem sessions included in a project named IOTT (Intercomprensione Orale and Teletandem). Teletandem is a model of dyadic audio-visual telecollaboration between peers. Particularly, IOTT aims to enhance intercomprehension and interaction skills. The theoretical framework for data analysis is the model of negotiation of meaning by Varonis and Gass (1985) and dialogism (Linell 2009). The data are audio-visual recordings of four pairs who interact using their L1: Portuguese and French, French and Italian. The analysis highlights different patterns of the negotiation processes, in which the speaker’s active role and orientation towards the other emerge.
