The aim of this article is to present the thought of Francesco Securo, known as Neritone, on the logical structure of the regressus demonstrativus. The study is based on a text that has never been studied before, namely the reportatio contained in Girolamo Balduino’s De regressu demonstrationis. The importance of this text lies not only in the fact that it documents the thought of Securus, but also in its connection with the thought of Galileo Galilei, who attributed an important role to this philosopher in his Quaestio an detur regressus demonstrativus. The complete transcription of the text concerning Securo’s doctrine of the regressus demonstrativus allows us to understand its fundamental role in 15th century speculation, especially with regard to methodology and, indeed, the doctrine of the regressus demonstrativus, which owes its first formulation to the Galenic and Averroist traditions as a reworking of the doctrine contained in Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics.

Abstract
The aim of this article is to present the thought of Francesco Securo, known as Neritone, on the logical structure of the regressus demonstrativus. The study is based on a text that has never been studied before, namely the reportatio contained in Girolamo Balduino’s De regressu demonstrationis. The importance of this text lies not only in the fact that it documents the thought of Securus, but also in its connection with the thought of Galileo Galilei, who attributed an important role to this philosopher in his Quaestio an detur regressus demonstrativus. The complete transcription of the text concerning Securo’s doctrine of the regressus demonstrativus allows us to understand its fundamental role in 15th century speculation, especially with regard to methodology and, indeed, the doctrine of the regressus demonstrativus, which owes its first formulation to the Galenic and Averroist traditions as a reworking of the doctrine contained in Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
