This article aims to describe and analyse the microconstruction "um belo dia" ("a beautiful day") from the theoretical perspective of Usage-Based Functional Linguistics. The analysis is guided by the hypothesis that in Brazilian Portuguese the uses of microconstruction "um belo dia" ("a beautiful day") constitute a process of change, since it expresses linguistically a more concrete concept, it is active in the basic sentence organization and also configures a more abstract use, at the textual level, at the macro-organization of the narrative. The dates integrates the "Corpus do Portugues", "Projeto Fala Goiana" and "Grupo Discurso e Gramatica". The analysis is in panchronic orientation.
