The concept of ethical finance is inspired by a philosophy animated by positive impacts for the environment and society. Consistently, the criteria for selecting the securities of ethical portfolios are influenced, in addition to maximizing yield and minimizing risk, by sustainable and responsible investment objectives. The aim of the work is to establish how compatible this additional guideline for portfolio choices is with others. Through the Matched pair analysis method performances of ethical funds were compared at aggregate level with those of unethical ones. Similarly to previous studies, it was found that even for the sample under examination, it is not possible to find a statistically significant difference. This work lays the foundations for further in-depth analysis deriving from the use of deeper historical series that can attribute greater significance to the analysis and deriving from considerations regarding the methodologies for attributing the actual ethical portfolio composition.
