The results of archaeobotanical analysis of material from the deserted VII-VIII century AD village of Supersano- loc. Scorpo (lE), are presented. The results display high densities of Vitis vinifera remains, in the form of pips (often fragmented), grape skins and pedicels; all of which strongly suggest grape processing for wine production. Analysis of other anthracological and carpological remains from the site, suggest various types of natural environments in the vicinity of the village and thus many economic resources were potentially available for its inhabitants.

Abstract

The results of archaeobotanical analysis of material from the deserted VII-VIII century AD village of Supersano- loc. Scorpo (lE), are presented. The results display high densities of Vitis vinifera remains, in the form of pips (often fragmented), grape skins and pedicels; all of which strongly suggest grape processing for wine production. Analysis of other anthracological and carpological remains from the site, suggest various types of natural environments in the vicinity of the village and thus many economic resources were potentially available for its inhabitants.
