The purpose of this study is to detect and compare the metaphorical war expressions that emerge in oral accounts of football matches in Spanish and Italian, collected in a corpus elaborated ad hoc. The work is developed within the framework of the cognitive linguistic approach (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980). The results show similarities and divergences according to the cultural particularity of each language and the area of use.
