This paper describes a learner-centred task implemented in two different learning scenarios: teletandem sessions and mediation sessions. The teletandem sessions consist in multimodal interaction carried out using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Internet Relay Chat tools. Two participants enroll in the activity and each speaks his/her language of proficiency for half of the oral session and the language he/she is learning for the other half. The second learning scenario, mediation sessions, are pedagogical events complementary to teletandem: during these, the students, tutored by their teacher, discuss their teletandem interactions, using videorecorded sessions as input. The task carried out during the mediation sessions aims at developing students’ ability to analyse interaction, particularly their mediation strategies during meaning negotiation.
