This article investigates the antiphrasis in the Greek rhetoric tradition with particular reference to manuals about tropes written in the late period, in order to derive definition and specific examples, discuss how antiphrasis was constructed and analyze its relationship with other rhetorical forms, such as litotes, euphemismus, irony. A synoptic reading of those paragraphs dedicated to the antiphrasis in the different handbooks allows us to discuss and analyze some interesting textual problems.
