An increase use of Calcium Sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement was detected in the last years as “environmentally friendly” alternative to Portland cement (OPC). Despite CSA are widely used in applications in which volume stability and high earlyage mechanical performance are required, limited information about the long-term behavior of concretes and steel-reinforced concrete elements made with these cements is available in the scientific literature to date. This paper presents the first results of a large experimental campaign aimed to study the short and long-term behavior of concrete and steel-reinforced concrete elements made with CSA pure or blended with OPC. The short and long-term behavior of different plain concrete mixtures was studied. Moreover, the flexural behavior and crack pattern of full-scale steel-reinforced concrete beams were investigated over time, varying the concrete mixtures, service and environmental conditions. The results showed a satisfactory behavior of the CSA concrete mixtures when compared with OPC reference mixture.
