Abstract

The present paper studies the so called Ps.-Eckhartian treatises under a codicological and structural point of view and develops a first tentative typology of those texts that are a significant element in the 14th century German spiritual literature. The vernacular works of Meister Eckhart played an important role in the production of treatise literature, as extracts from them were often used in producing new treatises, and aggregated and >recycled< in many different textual versions. The paper focuses on the early manuscript tradition of Eckhart’s German works (14th century) and analyses ways and dynamics of new composition in treatises >recycling< extracts of Eckhart explicitly or in hidden and anonymous forms.
