Abstract

The contribution, which mainly focuses attention on Jerome’s Tractatus in psalmos, examines the symbolic interpretation proposed by the Stridonian regarding the numbers four, ten, seven and eight, which provide useful elements for the reconstruction of the cultural background of the Stridonian. The aim of the study is to understand, limited to the subject in question, the characteristics of Jerome’s hermeneutic practices, exploiting the comparison with the parallels present in his production or in that of contemporary authors and identifying possible sources or exegetical paths that allow a better understanding of the fundamentals of Jerome’s interpretation.
