This article is published in a Class A scientific journal - 11/C5 - History of Philosophy. This article was subject to a rigorous double blind peer review process. This article deals with the specific concept of cupiditas, in the wider context of the soul-body relationship, as developed in Agostino Nifo's De amore, published in Rome in 1531. Nifo's interpretation is particularly innovative since he is the first to deal in Aristotelian perspective with the humanistic-renaissance theme of love philosophy treated by all the other authors in an almost exclusively Platonic perspective. Nifo is opposed in particular to the Marsilio Ficino’s Liber de voluptate, published in Venice in 1497, against which he proposed a reversal of the hierarchy of human functions and founded on the human being, rather than on the divine one, the origin of the feeling of love.
