The essay illustrates the topic of emancipation according to the concept of common. In the first part, the paper discusses the contributions of the young Karl Marx and Michel Foucault in order to draw the elements of a social criticism far away from liberal individualism as well as abstract communitarianism: the common offers the possibility of conducting this research focusing on the needs and aspirations of the subject, reflecting on the opportunity of a social organization more free. In the second part, the contemporary debate on the common is discussed with a double purpose: from one side to observe the debt that the biopolitical thought has contracted with Marx and Foucault, on the other hand to outline the category of immanence as the most interesting development of the common. The essay also shows the power as an obstacle to the emancipation through an approach that explains its heterogeneity and multidimensionality. The subject is captured by the shackles of power so that the possibilities of emancipation are related to the ability to carefully observe the dynamics of power in everyday life. The aim of the essay is to suggest an interpretation of the emancipation based on the subject.
