We study properties of the entropy on independent occupaton spaces, stressing the relation between this entropy and Shannon entropy at each site. Independence allows to strengthen results in the literature. In particular for the existence of the limit in Theorem 3, convergence in the sense of van Hove is replaced by the simpler request that the number of sites go to infinity. A connexion with Jaynes's maximum principle is also shown
