The aim of this paper is the presentation of the main results obtained during the recent archaeological research in the area of the sanctuary of Apollo (Hierapolis of Phrygia), which was restarted in 2001 after an interruption of about 35 years. Recent research has addressed the excavation of a broad area corresponding to the central zone of the sanctuary. The main results are concerned with: a) the identification of the architectural layout of the sanctuary, with the actual temple of Apollo and the discovery of other important structures connected with the cult, including the extensive area dedicated to sacrifices and a third marble monument (building C); b) the start of a systematic study of the building plans and the architectural elements that now make it possible to form the first proper hypotheses concerning the reconstruction of the buildings
