Groundwater conditions in a Southern Salento area including Corigliano d’Otranto, Castrignano dei Greci and Melpignano have been valued. After a hydrogeologic study and a census of wells present in area, 30 homogeneously distributed wells have been selected. Chemical and microbiological investigations were carried out under seasonal monitoring for one year. Lithostratigraphic composition study revealed an high water layer exposition to concentrated and diffused pollution by the very permeable floors. The chemical-phisical controls showed a positive situation independently from seasonal period whereas microbiological investigation results revealed faecal pollution in 90% of examined wells with seasonal differences.
