This volume explores the need to rethink international law in light of contemporary emergencies, understood not only as sudden and exceptional events, but also as structural, systemic and hybrid crises. Through a human rights-based and vulnerability-sensitive approach, the book examines armed conflicts, terrorism, migration, climate change, epidemics and pandemics, gender-based violence, poverty, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The contributions show how these phenomena are increasingly interconnected and capable of exposing or aggravating inequalities, institutional fragilities and gaps in international cooperation. The volume argues that international law must move beyond fragmented and merely reactive responses, developing a more coherent framework grounded in human rights, solidarity, prevention and shared responsibility. In this perspective, an international law of emergencies emerges as a necessary field for addressing global crises and strengthening the protection of vulnerable persons.
