In this work, an electromagnetic tool for studying a novel class of 3D-printed dielectric lens antennas is briefly presented. The geometrical shape of lens antenna is modeled using a generalized superformula. The electromagnetic analysis is based on both the geometrical and physical optics as well as tube tracing approaches. In this way, the multiple wave reflections within the lens region as well as the far field outside the lens can be calculated. Thanks to this electromagnetic tool it is possible to study complex lens antennas yielding non-conventional radiation patterns with low computational burden.

Abstract

In this work, an electromagnetic tool for studying a novel class of 3D-printed dielectric lens antennas is briefly presented. The geometrical shape of lens antenna is modeled using a generalized superformula. The electromagnetic analysis is based on both the geometrical and physical optics as well as tube tracing approaches. In this way, the multiple wave reflections within the lens region as well as the far field outside the lens can be calculated. Thanks to this electromagnetic tool it is possible to study complex lens antennas yielding non-conventional radiation patterns with low computational burden.
