Abstract

Preliminary results are presented of the experimental investigation conducted within the MUlti Scaling Acquifer (MUSA) project concerning, throug an integrated approach, the management and characterization of the underground aquifer prevailing within the Ecotekne Campus of the University of Salento. The latter is represented by a Miocene and Plio Pleistocene aquifer characterized by a considerable structural complexity with strong heterogeneity typical of fractured porous media involving various measurement scales, with respect to which a correct validation of hydraulic conductivity is of fundamental importance. MUSA is a test project in which the European Maritime & Enviromental Research (EUMER) and High Performance Computing (HPC) laboratories of the University of Salento and the CNR with the section of the Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Science (ISAC) are respectively involved. The core of MUSA is the acquisition of measurement data of the underground water table through the use of special HC‐SR04 ultrasonic detection sensors managed by means of ARDUINO‐Type acquisition boards integrated with Data‐Loggers and positioned directly inside wells.
