In this paper, I focus on the status and the position of the relative pronouns and some adverbs in Albanian restrictive relative clauses. Following Kayne (1994), I will assume a Raising Analysis of the relative pronoun [DP i/e cili/a (who) NP] from a base-generation position to a higher position inside an articulated Complementizer system, as the one proposed by Rizzi (1997). Thus, while that-relatives are externally merged, Wh-relatives derive by Internal Merge. I will assume that, in Albanian complementizer system there are two positions available for relativization, namely SpecForceP and SpecTopicP. Relativization involves a two steps derivation: first the relative DP moves to SpecTopicP, then the NP “head” raises to SpecForceP.
