Abstract

Italian Aristotelianism acquired some new characteristics at the turn of the XVI century. The discussion on the method of scientific investigation was enriched by the contributions of European inventive logic that was characterized by a strong revival of the dialectical method of Plato and the rhetoric of Cicero and Quintilian. Thanks to the competence and farsightedness of its exponents, the cultural environment of Padua was therefore the most suitable for theorizing, and subsequently also experimenting with, new methods of scientific investigation.
