Contemporary migration deeply transformed practices and family relations by producing new families forms. The essay explores in particular the reality of mixed couples in which one partner is Italian. In Italy, as well in other Europe countries, in the last decade there has been a progressive increase of mixed marriages. Therefore mixed marriages constitute a very interesting research field in order to explore the ways through which transnational relations are shaped and take part in the intersection between individual-family-institutions, or in the intersection between private and public sphere. Starting from the ethnographic data of Italian-Moroccan intermarriage in Rome the chapter will be focused into two main issues. The first one is about the mixed family in the context of the transnational families debate and of what has been called super-diversity “turn”. The second concerns the way in which mixed family is involved in daily life negotiations in the family and public sphere.
