The focus is on gender gap in housework and childcare in the Italian couples. Time Use data from 2008/09 Survey edition have been used: we considered couples, married or in consensual union, with at least one child under 14 years of age and mother employed. The amount of time spent by men and women in, respectively, domestic tasks and in caring after children has been modeled with a tobit model as function of several familiar characteristics. Results show that the family division of work is heavily biased towards women, and it is only when they take on the role of breadwinner that the amount of time their unemployed male partners spend in domestic tasks increases.
