The study of a multivariate data set concerning two or more variables of the phenomenon of interest can be done by using either classical multivariate statistical techniques mainly for exploratory purposes (detection of specific features or identi- fication of a reduced number of hidden factors which are common to the observed variables) or multivariate geostatistical techniques to model the spatial/spatiotemporal correlation which characterizes the analyzed data.
