The contribution analyses the discussion and the projects, implemented by the municipal administrations of Lecce, a medium-sized provincial city, for the construction of social housing and workers’ houses. Some relevant features can be distinguished: the first municipal projects between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and those of the first two decades of the twentieth century; the attempts of building planning during the fascist period; the post-war construction of the “Santa Rosa” district, after the 1949 reform “Piano Ina-Casa”.
