This article has been submitted to double-blind review process. The purpose of this article is to show how the problem of the relationship between nature, society and law has ancient roots. It is also important to underline how this relationship was institutionalized during the period of the birth of the first universities when they had only three faculties: Philosophy and Medicine, called Facultas Artium, Law and, finally, Theology. This subject then became an integral part of the philosophical discussion when the greatest philosophers of the time asked themselves what the philosophical status of these disciplines would be, which would have the most certain scientific foundation and which would be the most useful for society.
