This study tried to deepen the gamification dynamics’ effects on on-line interactions, by adopting a graph theory approach for quantifying controversies. By using as a case study a unique, collected dataset of conversations exchange and interactions from users of FolkTure mobile app, designed and developed for the folk music Festival “La Notte della Taranta”, we adopted an interdisciplinary approach to data analysis, to verify the hypotesis that the gamification logics implemented inside the app had influenced the rise and progress of controversies within the on-line community. Network analysis’ results has been verified through both the analytic point of view (the graph theory) and the observation of the pragmatic aspects of communication.
