After serving many important positions in economic and financial institutions in Argentina during the 1930s Raúl Prebisch became Executive Secretary of ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) from 1950 to 1962. In this paper it will be analyzed the relation between Keynes’s theory and the work of Prebisch starting from the 1930s up to 1950. While during the 1930s Prebisch used Keynesian ideas as a source of inspiration for his governmental policy approach, during the 1940s he progressively distanced from the theory of Keynes. In 1948 he clearly stated the Keynesian theory is not applicable to the dynamic analysis of development processes in Latin America. It is possible to link the abandonment from Prebisch of Keynes’ theory with the growing awareness of the necessity of dynamic theory useful for underdeveloped countries.
