Multiform India among nobles, dignitaries, craftsmen and servants. The Luigi Primoli figurine collection Rosa Maria Cimino The original, eccentric Luigi Primoli travelled in India from 1905 to 1906 and throughout his many wanderings there was attracted most by figurines of various kinds – in papier-mâché, terracotta or plaster. The collection numbers some eighty, measuring between five and twenty-five centimetres and representing characters from everyday Indian life, from nobles to decidedly humble looking craftsmen. Now in Rome’s Museo Napoleonico, the figurines retain an antique charm, speaking of a far-gone and often forgotten age. This study aims to shed greater light on this artistic genre, considered of minor importance, but in any case interesting and charming, and determine the provenance and period of the figurines in the Primoli Collection.

Abstract
This study aims to shed greater light on this artistic genre, considered of minor importance, but in any case interesting and charming, and determine the provenance and period of the figurines in the Primoli Collection.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
