This paper makes reference to various research projects conducted over the last few years in the northern Salento by the University of the Salento. These include the use of GIS as a tool for the study of landscapes, with particular reference to spatial analyses that better illustrate the relationships between human beings and the territory. This study makes reference to a series of analyses with two objectives: - to draw up predictive hypotheses concerning the most appropriate research strategies - to begin the analysis of settlement patterns on the level of the macro-area.
