The project is directed by R.S. Bagnall, as general director, and by P. Davoli as archaeological director. The aims of the project are the study and excavation of a 4th century polis called Trimithis, one of the most important administrative center in the Great Oasis (Western Desert) of Egypt during the Roman Period. Trimithis, the modern Amheida, has a long history that goes back to the Old Kingdom. The project started in 2001 and is a long term project. P. Davoli is the archaeological director from 2005 until today.
