The themes to be discussed in this paper thus concern two main issues: - The sustainable development of the landscape, frequently used and abused for the purposes of tourism. Tourism uses environmental resources as its main raw material and frequently has negative impacts in terms of diminishing the social and cultural identity of the host area, increased consumption of primary goods and resources, modification and destruction of ecosystems (be they associated with humans, mountains, lakes or coasts), loss of biodiversity, aesthetic and visual impacts, and pollution of waters and soil; - The need for landscape management to respect the environment and the naturalistic and cultural assets that it hosts; such management is therefore participatory, i.e., the result of collective mobilisation, in which public and private sectors interact to produce the desired outcome, and create spaces that become progressively easier to live in.

Abstract
The themes to be discussed in this paper thus concern two main issues: - The sustainable development of the landscape, frequently used and abused for the purposes of tourism. Tourism uses environmental resources as its main raw material and frequently has negative impacts in terms of diminishing the social and cultural identity of the host area, increased consumption of primary goods and resources, modification and destruction of ecosystems (be they associated with humans, mountains, lakes or coasts), loss of biodiversity, aesthetic and visual impacts, and pollution of waters and soil; - The need for landscape management to respect the environment and the naturalistic and cultural assets that it hosts; such management is therefore participatory, i.e., the result of collective mobilisation, in which public and private sectors interact to produce the desired outcome, and create spaces that become progressively easier to live in.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
