A documentary on Antonio de Viti de Marco (1858 - 1943), one of the most outstanding Italian scholars of Public Finance. Born in mid-19th century Lecce (Apulia, south-eastern Italy) into a large, influential and cosmopolitan family, he was an active member of Italian parliament, liberal, radical, democratic, and very much in favour of free trade. This documentary reconstructs for the first time this extraordinary figure, from childhood up to his refusal to take the oath of loyalty to fascism. In the actual places where he lived, Emilia Chirilli, who was the last direct witness after the death of all the descendents of the De Viti de Marco family, and ten experts featuring the Nobel prize winner James Buchanan, reveal here Antonio de Viti de Marco's life and thought, talking about previously unknown aspects of his activity and influence.
