Community of Pratice (CoP) represents a special kind of community, focused to promote innovation, learning, knowledge flows and business value. Since the pervasive penetration of ICT everywhere, to maximize the value generated by a CoP, it's necessary to create double-way links among members and machines. Ontology can represent an opportunity to create these connections. But, ontology building process has to consider the characteristics of the context in which ontology will be used. We propose the bottom-up approach as the best one for CoP. Finally, we illustrate a methodology adopted by eBMS CoP to create own ontology to enable knowledge flows.

Abstract

Community of Pratice (CoP) represents a special kind of community, focused to promote innovation, learning, knowledge flows and business value. Since the pervasive penetration of ICT everywhere, to maximize the value generated by a CoP, it's necessary to create double-way links among members and machines. Ontology can represent an opportunity to create these connections. But, ontology building process has to consider the characteristics of the context in which ontology will be used. We propose the bottom-up approach as the best one for CoP. Finally, we illustrate a methodology adopted by eBMS CoP to create own ontology to enable knowledge flows.
