Heterocycles count among many natural products, such as vitamins, hormones, antibiotics, as well as pharmaceuticals, herbicides, and other. Carbonylation reactions catalyzed by homogeneous systems provides new approaches to the synthesis of 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-membered ring heterocycles. We wish to report a catalytic method for the selective synthesis of new 8-membered ring heterocyclic compds. (benzazocinones) via intermol. cyclocarbonylation of 2-aminophenols with allylhalides. The reaction is catalyzed by palladium (II) complex and bidentate phosphine ligand in the presence of triethylamine and under syngas pressure (CO:H2≡1:1).(KFUPM-Saudi Arabia, CNR-Italy and University of Lecce-Italy are acknowledged for their support).
