A promising application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars in combination with glue-laminated timber members is their use as bonded-in connectors in place of steel. The advantages related to this solution are the improved durability of the system and the easier and faster application guaranteed by the lightweight properties of FRP materials. This paper outlines some recent research results on moment and shear-moment resisting joints between glulam member with carbon FRP bars used as connectors. Upon a preliminary bond characterization of FRP bars epoxied into glulam elements, full-size beams have been tested to evaluate the structural behavior and efficiency of different connection patterns. Experimental results are summarized and discussed.
