La storiografia contemporanea sui capitoli secolari

I Capitoli secolari hanno giocato un ruolo rilevante nella vita delle Chiese locali, ma la ricerca storica su questa precisa tematica ha subito molti ritardi, dovuti ai pregiudizi e all’assenza di coordinamento. Solo a cominciare dalla fine del XX secolo e con una particolare intensità dopo l’anno 2000, lo studio dei Capitoli è diventato un campo di ricerca importante, coltivato in quasi tutti i Paesi europei, e che ha prodotto un gran numero di saggi e monografie. All’interno di questo ambito di studi, possiamo individuare una serie di tematiche più rilevanti che accomunano i diversi casi singoli. Il presente saggio si concentra sul Medioevo e sul caso italiano, esaminato dall’inizio del XX secolo in poi, offrendo un rassegna di aree geografiche e di tematiche esaminate. Si procede anche con una descrizione delle caratteristiche dei Capitoli secolari italiani, in paragone con quelli d’Oltralpe e con l’elenco delle questioni ancora da approfondire. Contemporary historiography on secular chapters Secular chapters have played an important role in the Church History, but the research on this specific issue has suffered many delays, due to some prejudices and to the lack of coordination. Only starting from the end of the twentieth century and with a particular intensity after the year 2000, the study of chapters has become an important field of research, cultivated in almost all European countries, and which has produced a large number of essays and monographs. Within this field of study, we can identify a series of issues common to several individual cases. This essay focuses on the Middle Ages and on the Italian case, examined from the beginning of the twentieth century onwards, offering a review of the geographic areas and issues studied by the historians. We also proceed with a description of the characteristics of the Italian secular chapters, in comparison with those of the other side of the Alps and with the list of issues still to be explored.
