The aim of the recent FIRB-project Foreseeing Events and Dominating Nature: Mo- dels of Operative Rationality and the Circulation of Knowledge in the Arab, Hebrew and Latin Middle Ages is to critically edit three geomantic texts that played a seminal role in the medieval period: the Estimaverunt Indi, Hugo of Santalla’s Ars geo- mantie, and William of Moerbeke’s Geomantia. The latter is currently being edi- ted by the Lecce Unit of the project under the supervision of Alessandra Beccarisi. To carry out the analysis of the textual tradition of William of Moerbeke’s Geomantia, I have also based its investigation on an Italian translation preserved at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale of Florence. The present contribution analyses the relationship between the Italian version of the Florentine manuscript and the Latin manuscript tradition of the text, with special focus on the codex 76. 1, Aug. fol., preserved at the Herzog- August-Bibliothek of Wolfenbüttel. Moreover, the transcription of the initial part of the Italian text is to be found in the appendix.
